Mighty Macs Returning To CSAC Championship

BOX SCORE

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The No. 2-seeded Immaculata men's tennis team (7-5) has made their way back to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship match for the first time since 2013 as they defeated No. 3 Neumann, 5-3, on Friday afternoon in the CSAC Semifinals.

This is the first trip to the CSAC postseason for the Mighty Macs since that 2013 season where they lost to Marywood in the CSAC Championship, 5-0, after defeating Baptist Bible in the CSAC Semifinals.

The Mighty Macs will now advance to the CSAC Championship to face No. 1 Cabrini on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylaniva.

Today's match got started with the three doubles, and the Mighty Macs took two of three to take command of the match.  Seniors Stephen Smith and John Binner won second doubles 8-4, and freshman Ryan McDowell and senior Luke Santoni took the third doubles match, 8-3.  Senior Michael Griffin III and sophomore Dom Ramsden dropped a tough match at first doubles, 8-6.

In singles, the Macs dropped points at the first and third spots, but picked up wins in three of the other four positions to claim the match.

McDowell took the first point for IU after they fell behind 3-2 with the first two singles losses.  He won 6-2, 6-2 in commanding fashion, and Ramsden did the same at second singles by a score of 6-1, 6-4 to put IU in front 4-3 and in need of just one more point.

They got that from Binner at fifth singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win to lift the Macs to the CSAC Championship match.

IU and Cabrini matched up earlier this season at the Immaculata Tennis Courts, and the Cavaliers claimed the rain-shortened match, 5-0.
