Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. – Fourth-seed Immaculata University advances to the semifinal round in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament with its 18-12 victory against fifth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon.
Immaculata, which improves to 9-7 overall, will face top-seeded Cabrini College on Wednesday in the CSAC semifinals.
The Mighty Macs used its strong first half to propel themselves to the win. Immaculata outscored Gwynedd Mercy, 12-3, during the first half, including a 9-1 run during the first 17 minutes of the game.
Gwynedd Mercy staged a comeback in the second half as the visiting Griffins scored six-straight goals during the opening 10 minutes which cut the Mighty Macs lead to just 12-9.
A three-goal run during a four-minute span gave the Mighty Macs a six-goal cushion (15-9), and any further attempt by the Griffins to cut into Immaculata's lead was thwarted.
Danielle Lopez and
Allison Jakavick each had three goals and one assist while
Kirsten Jensen added three goals.
Kelly Lapp and
Mandy Grahn both added two goals and three assists, and
Shannon Neill and
Katie Cook finished with two goals and one assist apiece.
Alyssa Petito scored the other Immaculata goal.
Lapp added team highs in both ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (4). Lopez won a team-best 10 draw controls.
