IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team (11-6) got off to a fast start against Notre Dame (8-7) in the CSAC Quarterfinals by scoring three goals in the first 1:07 of the game and never looked back on their way to a 16-4 victory, the first postseason win in team history. In the first home playoff game for the women's lacrosse program, the Mighty Macs scored nine of the first ten goals and fifteen of the first seventeen as they dominated their quarterfinal matchup. Immaculata now advances to their first CSAC Semifinals on Wednesday when they travel to Cabrini.
Offensively, the Mighty Macs had five multi-goal scorers and six players with multiple points. Sophomore
Danielle Lopez led the team with seven points on a team-high four goals and three assists, along with six draw controls. Freshman
Shannon Neill had six points with three goals and three assists. Freshman
Kelly Lapp (two assists) and junior
Katie Cook (one assist, 4 DCs) each netted three goals, while junior
Aneesa Hill had two goals. Freshman
Allison Jakavick scored the final goal for Immaculata and added two assists.
Defensively, Immaculata was stout and did not allow Alli Terry (64 goals this season) to score. Seniors
Anne Moulton (4 GBs, 4 CTs) and
Megan Chacosky (4 GBs, 2 CTs) were very active in front of junior goalie
Nicole Behrndt, who collected five saves in the victory.
Immaculata wasted no time getting the scoring started as Lopez fed Cook just 21 seconds into the game and the junior gave the Mighty Macs a 1-0 lead. Just 24 seconds later, Neill raced in and gave Immaculata a 2-0 advantage. Finally, 22 seconds later, Jakavick scored on a good pass from Neill to carry the Mighty Macs to a 3-0 lead just 67 seconds into the game.
The Gators finally slowed the pace of the game and the run with a goal to make it 3-1 with 25:49 to go in the first half. However, the Mighty Macs would go on to score the next six goals over 25 minutes to take a commanding 9-1 advantage just before halftime.
Lapp scored twice, as did Lopez in the 6-0 run, while Cook and Hill each scored once to provide the offense during the spurt. A goal by Rachel Jones of Notre Dame made it 9-2 going into halftime.
In the second half, the Mighty Macs started just as well as they did in the first half as they scored the first six goals to balloon their lead to 15-2, the largest of the game. Neill scored twice, both on assists from Jakavick, and Lopez scored twice on an assist from Neill and Lapp. Cook and Hill would again add one more goal to finish off the run.
Lapp scored the final goal of the day on an assist from Lopez to cement the 16-4 postseason victory.
