IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University women's basketball team will host its fifth annual Play4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness game on Saturday, February 11 against Rosemont College inside Alumnae Hall.
Play4Kay, formerly known as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone, is an initiative that allows a nation of coaches to raise awareness and funds for cancer research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
All fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink as a show their support in the fight against breast cancer. Tickets to Saturday's women's and men's doubleheader are $5, and all proceeds from the game will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in 2007 in partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, to raise money in the fight against women's cancers. The late Kay Yow was the former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach and a past president of the WBCA. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away on January 24, 2009 after her third bout with the disease. Since the establishment of the Fund, $4.5 million has been raised for scientific research focused on women's cancers.
The Mighty Macs' women's squad will be taking on the Rosemont Ravens at 1 p.m., followed by the Immaculata men's team against Rosemont at 3 p.m.
