ATLANTA, Ga. – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2009-10 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll and the Immaculata University women’s basketball team was listed 19th nationally with a 3.435 grade point average (GPA).
The Mighty Macs were led by 12 student-athletes being named to the CSAC All-Academic Team this spring, and forward Chelsea McTigue was also honored as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Third Team selection.
Immaculata finished the 2009-10 slate with a 16-10 overall mark, including an 8-6 record in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC). The Mighty Macs, seeded sixth in the CSAC Tournament, reached the semifinals after defeated third-seeded Marywood in the quarterfinal round.
The Mighty Macs were one of two CSAC teams to show up on the top 25. Centenary College was second in Division III with a 3.613 GPA.
Carnegie Mellon University led Division III with a 3.616 GPA, while the University of the Redlands, Emerson College and William Smith College completed the top five positions.
This award, given in NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, recognizes teams throughout the country that carry the highest GPA for the entire season based on nominations by WBCA-member head coaches.
