ASTON, Pa. - Immaculata freshman midfielder Ben Tuscai captured the Colonial States Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year award to highlight five Immaculata men’s lacrosse players honored on the CSAC all-league team, as announced by the league office on Monday, May 3. John Cacchio, Dante Tuscai, Tom Hartney and Andrew Sim all joined Ben Tuscai on the honorable mention team.
B. Tuscai being named rookie of the year marks the first time an Immaculata men’s lacrosse player has captured one of the conference’s three major awards. It also marks the four-straight all-conference selection of Sim, and second consecutive year Cacchio has earned league recognition.
B. Tuscai had a break-out rookie campaign for the Mighty Macs, leading the team with 22 assists and listing second in points with 36 to help Immaculata to the fourth seed in the CSAC Tournament. He ranked first in conference-only games in assists with 2.50 assists per game while listing third with 4.00 points per game. He was also selected to the league weekly honor roll on April 12. He also tallied 14 goals, collected 17 ground balls and caused four turnovers.
The West Chester, Pa., tallied a season-high six points against Neumann on a season-best five assists. He also recorded five points opposite both Centenary and Shenandoah. He had a season-best three goals against the Cyclones.
Cacchio earns honorable mention accolades for the second straight season on attack. He led Immaculata in goals (24) and was third in points (32) during the season. He was second in the conference in goals per game (2.67) and sixth in points per game (3.33). He was selected to the CSAC weekly honor roll on April 26.
He tallied a season-best four goals against both Neumann and Gwynedd-Mercy. Cacchio also registered two assists against the Griffins for a season-best six points.
D. Tuscai was Immaculata’s point’s leader this season with 38 points on 19 goals and 19 assists. He ranked sixth in the conference in assists per game (1.50), while being second on the team. Tuscai recorded a point in every game this season, led by five points, on a season-high four goals, against Centenary.
Hartney earns honorable mention honors at midfield after tying Cacchio for the team lead with 24 goals. He five assists for 29 points, fourth-most on the team. In conference games, he was eighth in goals per game (2.00). He scored a season-high four goals against Shenandoah and tallied three goals opposite Centenary.
Sim earns honorable mention accolades for the second straight season after being selected to the conference’s second team in 2007 and 2008. He was named to the CSAC weekly honor roll on March 22.
Sim started all 14 games to lead the Mighty Macs into the playoffs for the first time in program history. He saw 814 minutes in goal with a 9-5 record. He made 210 saves for a .652 save percentage, leading the conference in saves per game with 15.67, and registered an 8.25 goals-against average. He recorded double-digit saves in all six CSAC games, including a season-high 26 saves against Cabrini. Sim also scooped up 50 ground balls during the season.
Freshman defender Dan Klodarska was named to the CSAC Sportsmanship Team. Klodarska played in all 14 contests and had 12 starts. He had a team-leading 24 caused turnovers, 34 ground balls and registered one assist. He collected a season-high seven ground balls against Neumann, and caused a season-high five turnovers opposite Gwynedd-Mercy.
Fourth-seeded Immaculata travels to ninth-ranked and top-seeded Cabrini for the semifinals of the CSAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon, May 4. Face-off between the Cavaliers and Mighty Macs is scheduled for 4 p.m. It marks the first time in the four-year program history that Immaculata has qualified for the conference postseason tournament.
