Men's Lacrosse Wins On Senior Day Over Moravian

IMMACULATA, Pa.
- Immaculata University sent its seniors out with a win as the men's lacrosse team defeated Moravian on Wednesday night, 8-5, in a non-conference game at Draper Walsh Stadium.

Senior Tom Hartney, playing his final collegiate game in front of the home crowd, led the Mighty Macs with two goals and one assist, while Joe Keller also tallied two goals. Mike Boyd added one goal and one assist, and Ryan Cipriani, Brad Hamlet and Jordan Smith each tallied one goal apiece. Dante Tuscai and Brendan Dinneen each one had assist during the game.

Immaculata (9-5) got on the board first as Hartney passed the ball to a waiting Cipriani right in front of the net for a goal with 8:55 remaining in the first quarter.

The Greyhounds (1-14) tied the score at 1-all with 4:42 left in the opening quarter on Robert Devine's tally, but the Mighty Macs scored 1:32 later as Keller scored his first goal of the game.

Moravian scored the next goal at the 10:05 mark of the second quarter, starting a span of four goals inside three minutes for the two squads. Boyd scored for Immaculata with 9:11 to play in the half, putting the Mighty Macs ahead, 3-2, but Devine scored again for the Greyhounds just 12 seconds later, knotting the score at 3-all.

Hartney netted his first goal of the game with 7:33 left in the left half, giving the Mighty Macs the lead (4-3), and Immaculata would maintain the lead the rest of the way. Keller scored his second goal 4:08 before intermission, and the Mighty Macs held a 5-3 advantage at halftime.

The third quarter was scoreless until Smith scored with 2:29 left, and Hamlet staked the Mighty Macs out to a 7-3 lead with just his second career goal with 1:46 remaining in the third.

Moravian outscored Immaculata 2-1 during the fourth quarter, but Immaculata held on for the 8-5 win.

Senior goalkeeper Andrew Sim made 18 saves to earn his ninth win of the season. Sim also led the squad with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Devine paced the Greyhounds with three goals, and David Bennett and Nelson Gavaghan each scored once. Moravian goalie Benjamin Leavy stopped nine shots while taking the loss in the crease.

Immaculata, in the midst of the most successful season in the four-years of the program, awaits its opponent in the first round of the CSAC Tournament. Tournament action is set to begin on Tuesday, May 4. The Mighty Macs will travel to the winner of the Cabrini-Marywood game scheduled for Thursday night.
