Men's Lacrosse Tops Penn State Abington

AMBLER, Pa. – The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season as it captured a convincing 17-2 win against Penn State Abington on Wednesday afternoon.

Brendan Dinneen led nine different Immaculata (1-2) goal scorers with five goals and one assist. Tom Hartney, John Cacchio, Ben Tuscai and Jordan Smith all registered two goals apiece.

Dante Tuscai, Joe Keller, Ryan Cipriani and Patrick Durso all posted solo goals. Hartney, D. Tuscai and B. Tuscai all dished out two assists each, while Cacchio, Dinneen, Cipriani and Durso recorded one assist apiece.

The Mighty Macs held a 45-19 advantage on shots, while the Nittany Lions held a 40-35 edge in ground balls and won 13 of 23 face-offs.

Kevin Glenn led the squad collecting eight ground balls, and D. Tuscai picked up five loose balls. Stone Gahagan went 10-for-18 on face-offs to account for all of Immaculata's wins.

Andrew Sim started in goal and logged 46 minutes for Immaculata to earn the win. Sim allowed one goal while making eight saves. Max Bonhage played the final 13:30 allowing one Nittany Lion goal and making one stop.

Immaculata scored the first 12 goals of the contest, including a 10-0 lead at halftime. The Mighty Macs scored five goals in each the first and second quarters, and the first two goals of the third quarter.

Penn State Abington deposited its first goal with 3:23 remaining in the third stanza as Andrew Hannigan scored unassisted.

The Mighty Macs added three straight goals to up its lead to 15-1 just 36 seconds into the fourth quarter. Pat Gillespie stopped the Immaculata streak as he scored for Abington with 12:02 left in the final quarter.

However, Immaculata tallied two more goals, the last with 6:03 on the clock for the final margin.

PSU-Abington goalkeeper Brian Schwitters played the three quarters in the cage, allowing 12 goals while making seven saves. Ron Rossi took over in goal for 15 minutes, allowing five goals and making four stops.  

Immaculata resumes action Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. at Lebanon Valley College.
