IMMACULATA, Pa. – John Boyd drained a free throw with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift Immaculata University to an 80-79 victory over visiting Neumann University in an exciting finish to its CSAC men’s basketball contest inside Alumnae Hall Monday evening.

Immaculata (9-8, 7-3 CSAC) erased a nine-point halftime deficit to complete the comeback against Neumann (9-8, 7-3). The win pulls the Mighty Macs into a tie for second place in the CSAC standings with Neumann and Keystone. Immaculata holds wins over both schools so far this year.

Neumann’s Marquis Boggs nailed a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left, and Na’Sheed Linton made a layup with nine seconds left to tie the game at 79-apiece.

Immaculata inbounded the ball to Boyd, who dribbled up the far side of the court and into the far corner where he was fouled taking a 3-pointer with under two seconds remaining. The shot banked off the glass and in, but Toure’ Wright fouled Boyd before he went up for the shot, so the basket was waived off.

Boyd stepped to the line with 1.2 seconds left and hit the first free throw. After a timeout by Immaculata, Boyd purposely missed the second foul shot and time ran out on the Knights.

Immaculata went on a 24-7 run with 12:24 remaining in the game to erase a 12-point deficit in the second half and put the hosts on top, 74-69, for the first time since the 10:21 mark of the first half (23-21). Robert Siter and Jeff DeSantis sparked the rally, combining for 12 of the 24 points during the decisive run.

The Mighty Macs shot 55.9 percent (19 of 34) in the second half to outscore the Knights, 47-37. Siter poured in 14 of his game-high 22 points after the break, leading four Mighty Mac players in double figures.

Boyd scored 18, Nelson Torres had 16 and DeSantis 13 for the Mighty Macs.

Linton finished with 21 points for Neumann. Wright posted 15 points and Boggs 14.

Immaculata returns home to Alumnae Hall on Saturday at 3 p.m. for another CSAC battle with Baptist Bible.
