Melissa Fetter Honored on Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball Team

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Immaculata University's Melissa Fetter was honored as a member of the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball Team as released on Sunday, July 19. Fetter is one of 10 student-athletes from around the Philadelphia area selected to the squad.  Honorees are voted on by the sports information offices at the 28 institutions in the surrounding Philadelphia metropolitan area.

The senior Biology major from Springfield, Pa., is a four-time conference all-academic team selection. She has also been recognized as a dean's list honoree four times. Fetter is also a member of the Sigma Zeta Honor Society and Immaculata University's Undergraduate Honor Society.

In addition to being named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball Team, Fetter was honored by the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) as an honorable mention all-conference selection. She earned weekly CSAC distinction twice this season as the player of the week on April 6 and on the pitcher weekly honor roll on April 20.

Fetter has experienced similar success on the softball field this past season. Splitting time between the pitching circle and the outfield, Fetter helped lead the Mighty Macs to a co-runner up finish in the CSAC.  On the mound, she had an overall record of 11-7 with a 3.18 over 101.1 innings, striking out 81 and keeping opponents to a .259 batting average. At the plate, she ranked second on the team in batting average (.390) with 39 hits.

Fetter is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball Team by Ashley Botelho (Drexel), Lauren Davis (Ursinus), Brittany Ebersole (University of the Sciences in Philadelphia), Courtney Norese (Temple), Bethany Pavlik (Delaware Valley), Dayna Phillips (University of the Sciences in Philadelphia), Alisha Prystowsky (University of Pennsylvania) and Kristie Sandefur (Cabrini).
