IMMACULATA, Pa. – Patrick Swift was introduced as the inaugural head coach of baseball at Immaculata University on Friday as announced by director of athletics, Patricia Canterino.
“This is an exciting time for Immaculata University and the Athletic Department as we continue to grow with the addition of a baseball program,” Canterino said. “Patrick is a young and energetic coach, who we feel will bring in talented student-athletes to build a baseball tradition at Immaculata and further enhance our athletic programs.”
Swift was chosen to help build and lead Immaculata’s baseball program that will begin play during the 2009-10 academic year, with its first season of NCAA varsity competition in the spring of 2010.
Swift comes to Immaculata following a brief stint at York College. Before his arrival at York, Swift was an assistant coach on Division II Millersville University’s staff during 2008, where he helped lead the Marauders to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East regular-season championship. He served as both the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator and also had responsibilities as the camp coordinator and with organizing the budget.
Prior to his arrival at Millersville, Swift served for two seasons as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater, Chowan University. He also coached in the Coastal Plain League, a summer collegiate baseball league, for two seasons with the Asheboro Copperheads. He served as an assistant coach during 2005, and was promoted to head coach the following season.
“I am excited to start the baseball program at Immaculata,” Swift said. “I thank Patty very much for this opportunity. I look forward to bringing in my first recruiting class, and the building of the new baseball field.”
During his collegiate playing career at Chowan, Swift was a four-year catcher for the Hawks. His senior year, Chowan won the 2005 NCCAA South Region championship. Swift also played with the Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League during the summer of 2004.
Swift received his bachelor’s of science degree in Sports Science from Chowan in May 2005. He is currently working on his master’s degree in Sports Coaching at the United States Sports Academy at Daphne, Ala.
Swift’s immediate responsibilities will be the recruitment of student-athletes for the baseball program during 2008-09. As head baseball coach, his other duties will be to oversee the daily operations of the program, which includes on-field coaching during games and practices, continued student-athlete recruitment, administrative duties and fundraising.
